Job Description

The Baltimore Sun is seeking a Graphic Design Intern to join our team this summer. This part-time role is a great opportunity for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with flexible scheduling. You will play a key role in bringing our brand to life through compelling visual content across digital and print platforms.

In this position, you will partner with our marketing, advertising, newsroom, and social teams to develop creative that supports storytelling, audience growth, campaigns and revenue initiatives. You will contribute to meaningful projects, participate in cross-functional collaboration, and gain valuable exposure to how a media organization operates. This is an opportunity to build your portfolio, sharpen your skills, and learn alongside experienced professionals in a supportive, high-energy environment.

Essential Functions

  • Design and produce creative assets for marketing campaigns, including email, social media, landing pages, and digital display ads
  • Support the creation of print materials, including flyers, promotional pieces, and sales collateral
  • Develop graphics for social media, print publications, website content, and podcasts
  • Assist with advertising client creative and branded content projects
  • Collaborate with marketing, newsroom, and advertising teams to bring ideas to life
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute creative concepts and feedback
  • Ensure all creative aligns with brand guidelines and campaign objectives
  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Marketing, or a related field
  • Strong design skills with a portfolio showcasing digital and/or print work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign required; After Effects or Premiere is a plus)
  • Basic understanding of layout, typography, color, and branding principles
  • Ability to take direction and incorporate feedback
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Interest in media, journalism, communications or marketing is a plus but not required
  • This is a part-time internship (20–30 hours per week)
