Merchant / Buyer (E-Commerce & Omni-Channel Retail)
New York / Hybrid – 3 days onsite (Tue, Wed, Thu)
$85,000 – $120,000 + KPI-based bonus
Position Overview
A growing retail and e-commerce organization is seeking a strategic and analytical Merchant / Buyer to manage product categories across omni-channel sales platforms. This role focuses on merchandising strategy, forecasting, vendor management, and inventory planning through the Open-to-Buy process . The Merchant will analyze sales performance, optimize product assortment, and collaborate with marketing, web, and sales teams to drive category growth, profitability, and customer experience.
The Ideal Candidate
Strong merchandising or buying experience in retail or e-commerce environments
Deep understanding of Open-to-Buy planning, forecasting, and inventory management
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales data and build category strategy
Skilled in vendor relationships, negotiation, and product sourcing
Comfortable working cross-functionally with marketing, web, and sales teams
Strong communication and presentation skills
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute category merchandising strategies to drive sales and profitability
Manage product assortment lifecycle , ensuring strong brand and product representation
Conduct sales analysis, forecasting, and Open-to-Buy management to maintain optimal inventory levels
Build and manage vendor relationships , including negotiation and sourcing opportunities
Monitor website performance and customer experience across product categories
Collaborate with marketing, web development, and retail teams to improve category performance
Develop promotional strategies that support sustainable growth
Identify gaps and strategic opportunities to optimize category performance
Conduct regular business analysis and present insights to senior leadership
Qualifications & Must-Haves
Merchandising / buying experience in retail, e-commerce, or omni-channel environments
Strong knowledge of Open-to-Buy planning, forecasting, and inventory management
Proven ability to analyze sales data and translate insights into strategy
Vendor management and negotiation experience
Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, operations, and sales teams
Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Familiarity with web performance metrics (Google Analytics, Omniture, or similar tools) preferred
