Job Title: Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

Location: Garrison Dam, North Dakota.

Project Type: Dredging Project

Duration: April 14, 2026 – November 2026

Schedule: 6 days/week, 12-hour shifts (Monday–Saturday)

Compensation: $3,000 per week

Benefits: Lodging provided, $500/month vehicle stipend

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee all safety operations for an active dredging project at Garrison Dam, ND. The SSHO will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with safety regulations, implementing site-specific safety plans, and promoting a strong safety culture across all crews working in a marine/heavy civil environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce the Site Safety & Health Plan (SSHP)
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and project safety standards
• Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
• Monitor dredging operations and heavy equipment activities to identify and mitigate hazards
• Perform regular site inspections and audits to ensure a safe working environment
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; prepare detailed reports
• Maintain safety documentation, logs, and compliance records
• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors on safety matters
• Ensure proper use of PPE and enforce safety protocols at all times
• Provide safety training and onboarding for all personnel on-site

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer or SSHO (preferably in dredging, marine, or heavy civil projects)
• Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards and regulations
• Experience working around water, heavy equipment, and excavation/dredging operations
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required)
• First Aid/CPR certification (preferred)
• EM 385-1-1 experience (highly preferred for federal projects)
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work long hours in demanding field conditions

Work Environment

• Active construction/dredging site with exposure to heavy machinery and water hazards
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Extended work hours (12-hour shifts, 6 days per week)
