Job Description

Position Summary

The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe, sustainable workplace. This role partners closely with production, maintenance, and leadership teams to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and foster a culture of safety within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations and standards.
  • Manage environmental programs including waste disposal, air emissions, water discharge, and chemical handling.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs (e.g., PPE, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, emergency response).
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory systems.
  • Track and report EHS metrics (e.g., incident rates, near misses, compliance status).
  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and evacuation procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a point of contact for regulatory inspections and audits.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred)

Experience:

  • 2–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and safety program management

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and environmental regulations
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards (preferred)
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • HAZWOPER certification

Working Conditions

  • Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
  • Requires regular floor presence, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting
  • May require occasional travel or off-hours support
