Nature of Work:

The Home/Hospital Teaching Program is short-term instruction by home teachers to students who are unable to attend regular classes due to properly diagnosed physical or emotional health conditions. Instruction occurs in the home with an adult present. Generally, students receive six hours per week of instruction for approximately 60 days.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to professional relate to and collaborate with co-workers, students and community members
• Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to direct and evaluate student learning experiences
• Ability to provide guidance to students to promote educational development and welfare

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans according to the instructional needs and abilities of the student; must implement IEP, if applicable
• Develops effective strategies to deal with physical/emotional disabilities
• Assists students with learning activities
• Maintains open lines of communication with students, staff, and parents

QUALIFICATIONS:

Internal SMCPS Applicants Required:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Current St. Mary's County Public Schools certificated employee

External Applicants Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred:

Current teacher certification
